Embrace Your Gift(s)

February 17, 2013

Wow! So my devotion this morning certainly put me in check! Just last night I was thinking to myself how much I wish I could do a certain thing...as in, I wish I was blessed with that specific gift! This morning my devotion reminded me that:

1. Our gifts were given to us by God--Who saw it fit for each of us to have a certain amount or type of gift!

These gifts were given to us so that we could use them to bring Him glory--no matter what that/those gift/gifts is/are...It reminds me of one of my favorite songs by J Moss-- "We Must Praise!" If you are unfamiliar with this song, it basically reminds us that NO matter what gift(s) we have, me must use it/them to praise our dear Lord! My favorite part in the songs says "if I were an eagle, I would use my wings...but since I'm a believer, I'll use everything!" -- this means, like I have mentioned before, we ought to use ALL our gifts, no matter what it is to bring glory to the God-- who gave us these gifts to begin with.
2. We should be content with the gift(s) we have and not be jealous or envious of another person's gift(s)!

Boy did I feel silly! -- it's true though...our gifts are all unique to each of us... Some of us can sing, some dance, others paint, draw, preach, etc! We all were created with a purpose and should seek to bring that purpose to life daily. Think about it! If you were feeling seriously ill, where would you go? Would you go down the street to your hairdresser or barber to get diagnosed and treated? Or would you head to the doctor who was gifted and trained to to perform such function? Now I'm not belittling a hairdresser or barber as their gifts or functions are just as special and important as that of the doctor's. However, diagnosing and treating an ill person is not the function of a hairdresser, a barber, or even a police officer. I say this to illustrate how each of our gifts are special in their own way and must not be taken lightly.

So today, we need to recognize our purpose and gifts and use them accordingly! Don't stray outside of them looking to be like others! Strive to be like God, NOT man! Be thankful  --and embrace your gift!

"We can't all play the same part in God's band of service, but we should all play in harmony!" -Unknown

Below, I have posted a video of the song I mentioned above: "We Must Praise" by J Moss
Enjoy!

As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace: whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.- 1 Peter 4:10-11 [ESV]

Hmmm! What else can I add? You've said the most of it. Ha. Well, gifts are like blessings. They are both given to us by God for a purpose. Everyone has different gifts, and everyone receives different blessings.

We have to learn to appreciate what we have and not envy others. Comparing our gifts and blessings to that of others, leads to envy. Envy does nothing, but brings us down.

As long as we are able to appreciate and know the reason behind the gifts we have and put it to use, we won't need to envy others.

Count your blessing (gift), name them one by one, and it'll surprise you what to Lord has done.
